Screen Name?
Jasonnin
And what is your real name?
Jason (I bet you had to think real hard on that one.)
Where are you from?
Small southeastern town in Minnesota (Yeah, sure – you betcha!)
Please tell us a little about yourself (Job, hobbies, etc.):
I went to school to be a machinist, and got a job running a CNC lathe. However, due to our workload slowing down I basically ended up doing the tool purchasing and gage calibration at my workplace. I’ve been there for 11 years now. Some of my hobbies, include computers (basically tinkering with them, building them that kind of thing), watching movies, surfing the internet, listening to music, playing video games, collecting bootlegs, playing around with a shortwave radio, and some astronomy.
How/when and why did you get into L.A. Guns?
You know it seems to me most people here probably saw L.A. Guns on MTV (maybe the Ballad of Jayne?) However that wasn’t the case for me. We didn’t have cable at my parent’s house. I remember my younger sister’s friend came over and brought over some of her cassettes, and I was looking through them and asked if I could make a copy of Hollywood Vampires. I remember hearing “Kiss My Love Goodbye” on the radio back then, and I liked it. A couple of days later during some leisure time (or homework), I was listening to it. Well I loved “Kiss My Love Goodbye”, and after listening to “Over The Edge” a few times, it totally grew on me. Then I liked “Crystal Eyes”, and then “I Found You”, and then “It’s Over Now”. After a while, I was thinking wow, this tape kicks ass!! Ever since then, I remember going to the Mall of America, and heading over to the music store and eyeballing Cocked and Loaded and the self titled album. I was thinking damn, I would love to have that Cocked and Loaded CD, it has the hit single “Ballad Of Jayne”. I wonder what that song, “Ballad Of Jayne” sounds like. LOL Well, I was probably around 15 when Hollywood Vampires came out, and I didn’t have a job. After about 3 or 4 trips to the Mall of America and my father watching me eyeball that same CD over and over and over. I think he felt bad and purchased it for me. LOL I wasn’t one to ask my parents for money. I always felt bad, so I very rarely asked them for anything. So after listening to the Ballad of Jayne and after owning both of those albums, I became hooked on the band. However the grunge phase hit and by the time nirvana became huge, (probably 94ish for me anyways) I have to admit, L.A. guns kind of went to the wayside for a while. I didn’t listen to a whole lot them and I do remember picking up the self titled and Vicious Circle, and thinking damn 2 kicks ass CD’s. But as most people know. Grunge ruled the airwaves. Well the guns broke up, and I kind of starting listening to the grunge/punk stuff, for quite a while and everything else in-between. As I grew a bit older I started listening to my L.A. Guns CD’s again, and found this message board and saw them live for the first time back in March of 06’. Meanwhile I also discovered L.A. Guns had put out a total of 3 original albums that I didn’t have. (plus a live and a few demo’s etc etc) So I picked them up. And then I realized how much I missed listening to my old stuff, and how much I have missed.
What is your favourite song/album?
The hardest question to answer yikes!!! My Favorite album of all time and L.A. Guns is Cocked and Loaded. My favorite Non L.A. Guns album would probably be, Metallica – black album. My favorite song hmmmmmmm, you know I used to have the belief that you can only have 1 favorite song EVER, but then I realized, it is virtually impossible to have the same favorite song your whole life. It really is hard to choose one song so a list of my fav’s is, Magdalaine, Wheels Of Fire, Over the Edge, Long Time Dead, Resurrection, and Electric Gypsy. I wouldn’t have said Electric Gypsy 2 years ago. But after seeing my first show back about 1-1/2 years ago, the crowd energy got me hooked. I love that song!!! Favorite NON L.A. Guns – songs, For “Whom the Bells Toll” Metallica (still frickin rocks today in the year 2007!), “You Give Love a Bad Name” (Bon Jovi), and “Dragula” (Rob Zombie).
Now share your favourite L.A. Guns story/memory, please:
I’ll be honest, I’ve seen the band 3 times, since 2005. So anyone who has followed the band for a long time probably has some much better moments then I have. However, the best one that I can think of is back in January 2007, I saw them for the 2nd time, and I was pretty much in the front, singing every song that was on the set list. LOL and after the show, I was talking to someone next to me, and I felt a nudge on my shoulder and I was like, who the hell was that, and I turned around Phil ran by me smiled and kind of nodded me his way. So I stayed for the meet and greet and I talked to Phil for the first time, and before I could say anything, my wife yells to Phil, hey my husband is obsessed with you guys! I’m thinking yikes, “don’t say that!” LOL And we just talked a couple of minutes. Now for someone who goes from ogling that Cocked and Loaded CD at 15 years old in the Mall of America to getting to actually meet Phil Lewis and having him sign my shirt and get my picture taken with the guy. That was pretty damn cool!
What other bands do you like?
Nine Inch Nails (hence the screen name), KMFDM, Rammstein, Everclear, Metallica, The Offspring, Nirvana, early Pearl Jam, Bon Jovi, Rob Zombie I also love Techno music, (yes the music with lots of bass, and no words), Trance, Hip-Hop/Rap (although im kind of burned out on it though) and Pop/Rock.
What is/are your favourite books?
One of these days, I plan on picking up a few of these. 1984 is one that I would like to read someday. LOL But seriously out of the few books I have read, probably “The Good Earth.” (yeah I read it high school – so sue me!) But I did actually read it.
And what is/are your favourite movies?
28 Days Later, Star Wars, Aliens, Born In East L.A., Meet The Parents, L.A. Guns (Loud and Dangerous DVD), The original Planet of the Apes, Monty Python’s In search of the Holy Grail, Spaceballs, The Breakfast Club, Braveheart, Signs and the Blade Trilogy.
