Please tell us a little about yourself (Job, hobbies, etc.):
I currently work at KFC/Taco Bell. It's not ideal but it pays the bills and gives me some extra spending money (got to have my music!). In my spare time (what little of it I have these days) I like to read, write, watch movies, and of course listen to music. I'm a complete night owl, would rather stay up all night (or a good portion of it) and sleep all day. I don't get to do that as much anymore because of work. I live for my days off. Don't get me wrong I like my job (most of the time) but days off are always nice.
How/when and why did you get into L.A. Guns?
I first became aware of them in the summer of 2000 (I believe.. don't hold me to that). VH1 was having a countdown called Top Forty Hair Bands or something like that. The number they landed at has long faded from my memory but they made it on with 'Ballad of Jayne' and I remember thinking "hey, the singer is kind of cute." and that I'd heard that song before.
That was really it for a couple years and then the whole MySpace thing became more popular. I think a friend posted on a group we were both part of about the MySpace page of Gerry Laffy (ex GIRL guitarist, etc) which in turn led me straight to GIRL and then L.A. Guns (again). That's pretty much how it happened. Guess I have my friend to thank for posting about Gerry's page or else I never would have be reintroduced to LAG.
What is your favourite song/album?
Nothing like a tough question! Hmm... I have things I like about all their albums. I guess if I had to pick just one, I'd say Tales From The Strip because it has Electric Neon Sunset (LOVE that song!) and Gypsy Soul (love that one too!)
Now share your favourite L.A. Guns story/memory, please:
I actually have two, just can't choose between them.
Okay, it actually starts with Gerry Laffy and then becomes a LAG story/memory. I run a fan site on MySpace for mainly Gerry and GIRL
( http://www.myspace.com/moneyandthemagic ). Gerry has been extremely kind in agreeing to exclusive interviews (two so far) and in the first one, there was a word association. Phil was one of the names and Gerry responded with "Otter Boy".
I was totally curious to the story behind that but never got around to asking Gerry about it. Well I eventually posted it to the LAG forum and I must have said something about the nickname because Phil ended up responding with the story behind "Otter Boy" (thanks Phil!)
The second one is much more recent. A friend of mine (who is also into LAG) wanted to start a fan site for Stacey ( http://www.myspace.com/purexstacey ) and she wanted to know if I'd help her with it. Well one day I had an email from her telling me to check the inbox over there so I logged out of my personal page and in over there. Nearly fell out of my chair when I saw a message from Stacey about the page. I don't remember everything he said but getting an email from him was pretty cool. What other bands do you like?
Def Leppard, Duran Duran, Gerry Laffy, Poison, Heart, Power Station, Arcadia, Motley Crue, GIRL, Faster Pussycat, John Taylor. I could go on forever. I LOVE music but the ones I've listed are tops with me.
What are your favourite movies?
Dazed and Confused, A League of Their Own, Highlander, Top Gun, The Breakfast Club, House of Wax.
And your favourite books ?
Anything written by Nora Roberts. I also like reading rock and roll biographies or autobiographies.
Any famous last words?
Thanks for choosing me as the June FOTM. It's truly a honor and I'm completely humbled now. A thank you also to L.A. Guns for the awesome music and I hope to see you live one of these days!
Last but certainly not least, remember it's better to burn out than fade away! (Being a huge Def Leppard fan as well I just had to throw a DL reference in this somewhere! lol)
